Plan International, has provided the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service with 5 studios to be used for teaching Basic and Senior High School Students using the traditional media, comprising Television and radio.
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh said this at a media briefing on the preparedness of the Education Sector on the COVID-19 Pandemic in Accra on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
According to the Minister, Plan International Ghana has started its broadcast in the Volta and Eastern Regions to help students in those regions to learn while at home during the Covid-19 break.
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempah said, that Plan International has provided 5 of its studios in Accra, to help the Ministry to involve more teachers to be able to record learning contents in core areas which shall be aired on Television and radio.
He called on the media, most especially the television and radio stations to come support the Ministry to air the projects when it begins, describing the need as a matter of urgency.
He said the broadcast shall be in areas including topics from the Kindergarten, Lower Primary, Upper Primary, JHS and the SHS.
SHS Online Lessons
Senior High School students are expected to visit online to study all core subjects for free amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) break.
According to the Minister, The Centre for Distance Learning Organizations has developed an online program for all the core contents in the Senior High Schools.
He indicated, all Senior High School students have been given passwords and access to an Icampus System, where there are notes with exercises, with over 20,000 interactive quizzes.
Applauding Vodafone Ghana for its support to help students have access to educational content for free, the Minister called on all telecommunication companies to help zero-rate educational contents.
He believes, should all telcos come on board, the majority of the students could have access to online content for free.
