The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has debunked rumors that the 2019 West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates has leaked.
WAEC, in a statement issued on May 28,2019 indicated that information circulating on Social media regarding a supposed leakage of papers of the ongoing WASSCE were false.
WAEC ,however, affirmed Mobile Phones were Smuggled into Exam Halls.
Meanwhile,the Examination Councuil further indicated that its monitoring team has been informed about some malpractices .
WAEC further indicated that poor supervision and invigilation have been the main cause of the alleged malpractices.
The Examination Council also said that there has been pre-arranged cheating situations where hideouts were created for teachers with knowledge about certain areas to have the chance to help the students.
WAEC further alleged that in such situations,snapshots of the questions were being taken to such teachers to help solve for the students.
Investigating the Malpractuices,WAEC said that some fake websites and social media platforms were also being used.
Clarifying suspisions,the Examination Council said that when snap shots of questions were sent to the teachers,they further collaborate with the fake website owners to disseminate the answersr to students.
WAEC adaed,that such questions were sometimes snapshoted after the quetsions paper packets were opened.
Measures to address the Challenges
To addres the challenges mentioned above,WAEC said that there shall be an increase in the number of supervisors and invigilators at all centres.
WAEC also emphasized,some supervisors shall be withdrawn pending further sanctions.
WAEC also said it shall make a complaint to the Cyber Crime Unit of the CID on the fake websites.
WAEC indicated that candidates suspected to have been involved in the malpractice are being investigated.
