Headteachers apologized to Adutwum over ”Enough of Your Threats” Comment

The Eastern Regional Council of the Conference Of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has  retracted portions of its earlier press statement issued on 29th March, 2019.

In a response to a news publication which presupposes that Dr. Yaw Adutwum has asked haedteachers to work  hard within the next three years or get demoted,the headteachers indicated that Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum ,should rather provide them with the neccesaary logistics to work effectively.

But in a latest press statement by the headteachers on April 4,2019,the headteachers had apologized to the Deputy Education Minister with regards to a portion of their earlier press statement which asked the Deputy Minister to provide them with logistics to work rather than threatening their job security .

Reason for Apology

Explaining their reasons for apologizing to the Deputy Minister, the headteachers indicated that it has become necessary because after the first press statement which went viral, the Deputy Minister of education Dr. Yaw Adutwum summoned the Eastern Regional chairman of COHBS to the ministry to throw more light on the subject.

At the meeting heavily attended by the deputy director general of Education, director basic education, the Eastern Regional chairman, national president and the general secretary of COHBS, the deputy minister insisted that he was misreported and requested for the source of the above subject.

The Deputy Minister insisted that COHBS could have verified with him for the facts before issuing the press statement.

He explained that the statement he made at the Edurevolution conference organised by infoview data solutions.

He said “any headmaster who performs poorly in the next three years after the ministry has provided all the logistics and training needed will be re-assigned and not demoted.” He stressed on the difference between re-assignment and demotion.

For not verifying with the deputy minister before issuing the press statement, COHBS apologises to the deputy minister and retract that portion of our statement.

The headteachers, however reiterated the need for the provision of logistics to enhance the work of the head teacher in the delivery of his managerial responsibilities at the school level.

COHBS further used the opportunity of meeting the deputy minister to seek his attention on some nagging issues requiring answers at the education sector.

The headteachers said the meeting was held under a friendly atmosphere and the deputy minister promised to engage COHBS frequently henceforth.
