The NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has registered as a Ghanaian voter following the controversy surrounding her winning of the constituency primaries.
A photo image of Dr. Rawlings and her inked finger emerged moments after she completed the registration exercise at the Nyaniba polling station at Ridge which is within the constituency.
She was dragged to court by the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Nii Armah Ashitey after he lost the primaries to the daughter of the founder of the NDC, Dr. Rawlings.
According to Nii Armah Ashitey, Zanetor Rawlings was not a registered voter in Ghana and thus cannot or contest as a candidate for a parliamentary position.
There have been several back and forth court attendance regarding the case with the latest being the adjournment to May 3 by the Supreme Court which is to hear a case filed by Dr. Rawlings, praying the court to declare that the High Court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the case.
The statement of case issued by lawyers of Dr. Rawlings is seeking “an order of prohibition directed to Justice Kwaku T. Ackah Boafo of the High Court.”
But when Electoral Commission opened the registration for first time voters from April 28 to May 8, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings registered.
As to whether her registration would put the issue to rest can only be determined by the courts.
