UG borrows to pay Staff for two Months,likely to delay March Salaries over Gov’t’s Negligence

The Staff of the University of Ghana, Ghana’s Premier University, are not likely to enjoy the Easter holidays with joy as their March 2018 Salaries are likely to delay.

The delay in the payment of the salaries of the Staff of the University has been attributed to Government’s failure to release subventions for the past three months.

This revelation was contained in a Memo signed by the Registrar of the University of Ghana, Legon, Mercy Haizel-Ashia on March 21,2018.

The memo stated that the processing and release of the compensation subvention for January and February has been delayed and therefore, payment for March 2018 salaries cannot be made as scheduled.

The memo further emphasized It was not possible to borrow for a third month to pay salaries.

Assurances have been given that “efforts are being made by management to ensure that the delay does not prolong.”


The university was faced with a similar situation in February 2014 when salaries delayed and was attributed to cen­tral government’s failure to release subventions.
