UCC Matriculates 18,830 students into Distance Education Programme, records high female enrollment

Female enrollment in educational institutions have suffered a major setback in the country’s educational enrolment history, as there is always a wide imbalance between males and female enrollment in various educational institutions in the country especially at the tertiary level.

However, recent statistics of the number of females admitted into the distance education programme of the University of Cape Coast shows a remarkable improvement in the enrolment of females into tertiary institutions.

Out of the 18, 830 students who were admitted into various programmes of the university, 8,205 were females as against 10,634 for males. This clearly revealed a significant achievement in bridging the wide margin between male and female enrolment into the university of Cape Coast.

The Vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast,Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole, made the revelation in his speech delivered at the final session of the 15th matriculation ceremony of the college of distance education last Saturday. Professor Kuupole described the earnest zeal for females seeking higher education as laudable and urged others to follow suits.

The distance education programe according to Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole, is making giant strides to make higher education accessible to all irrespective of one’s location and in effect transform the country into a better place. This he indicated is slated to be achieved through the creation of more study centres across the country.

Professor Kuupole again stressed the urgent zeal for the university to expand the distance education program to the doctoral level, by this, he called on all to embrace the new opportunity and utilize it to the fullest.

Professor Kuupole further assured the newly admitted students that plans have been rolled out to correct all challenges that affect students and their academic lives. He congratulated the newly admitted students and advised them to be brand ambassadors of the university through the relay of their knowledge gained from the school to help improve societies.
