Three IPS students arrested for gang-raping girl, 16

Three students of the Institute of Professional Studies, IPS, in Akyem Kukurantumi in the Eastern region have been arrested by the Kukurantumi Police for allegedly gang raping a 16-year-old Junior High School student.

The suspects who were arrested on November 6, 2015, have been granted Police enquiry bail after preliminary investigations.

Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent, Kojo Ansah’s investigations revealed that, parents of the victim reported to the Police that, the three suspects have gang-raped the victim after holding her hostage for days.

Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects having been informed by the victim of passing the night with them.

The suspects were kept in Police Custody for further investigations for prosecution to begin, however, during interrogation by the Criminal Investigations Department the victim explained that, one of the suspects is her boyfriend so after evening studies, she decided to pass the night in his room which he shares with other friends.

The victim admitted to having consensual sexual intercourse twice with her boyfriend and once with her boyfriend’s friend in the absence of the boyfriend.

The victim, however, denied having sexual intercourse with the third suspect during police interrogation.

The Akyem Tafo District Police Commander, DSP Agyenim Boateng confirmed the story to Starr News adding that the victim even though admitted having sexual intercourse with the two suspects, it was not forced hence rendering the “ingredient of rape negligible to substantiate because it clearly appears to be a sexual intercourse which was consented by the parties involved; therefore it would be unreasonable to continuously detain the suspects”.

The suspects have since been granted police enquiry bail with one surety while a docket is being prepared to the Attorney General’s Office for advice.
