Teacher fined 200 penalty units for Sodomy

A United States of America (USA) citizen and teacher, only identified as White, who was caught in an attempted act of sodomy with his Ghanaian lover, has been fined 200 penalty units.

This was after White and his partner, James Mensah, were put before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin Doku and charged with attempt to commit crime, to wit unnatural carnal knowledge, to which White pleaded guilty.

The American had initially denied any wrongdoing but made a u-turn on Monday and said he was guilty of the offence and was consequently convicted to pay 200 penalty units or in default spend one year in jail. Mensah however denied any wrongdoing. An alleged accomplice, Joseph Kojo Adenyo, a trader who gave his room to the suspects, was also charged with abetment of crime and he pleaded not guilty. Adenyo will re-appear on January 26, 2016 for the trial to continue.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting officer, Chief Supt Duuti Tuaruka, are that the complainant is a police officer stationed at the Regional Police Headquarters while White is a US national and a teacher. According to him, Mensah is a caddy at the Achimota Golf Centre and a resident of Dome Pillar Two while Adenyo is a trader and lives at Christian Village.

He said about three weeks ago, White met Mensah at Achimota Golf Park and that on December 13, 2015 the trader gave out his room to White and Mensah to use for their unnatural carnal knowledge activities.

In addition, he said the suspects entered the room of the trader and started kissing each other and were about to engage in the act when the police, based on information received, went to the room of the trader and arrested the suspects who were naked in the room.
