Speaker witnesses installation of chiefs, inaugurates ICT centre at Pakro

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, joins the people of Pakro, near Nsawam, in the Eastern Region to introduce two of their chiefs and unveil a programme to build an information and communication technology (ICT)/library centre for schools in the town.

The Speaker will be joined by some ministers of state, Members of Parliament (MPs) and friends of the town.

Introduction of Nana Kweku Dei

Recently, the people of the town installed Mr Ransford Tetteh, acting Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd, as an Nkosuohene under the stool name, Nana Kwaku Dei, and Nana Akosua Asabea as Nkosuahemea.

The chief of the town, Nana Mensah Kuma III, decided to expand his council of elders to bring on board public-spirited citizens of the town to give the community a facelift.

Need for amenities

It has been realised that the town, with a population of about 3,000 needs some social amenities to meet the growing needs of the community.

he four basic schools in the town have no ICT/library facilities to prepare the students adequately for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Although the town is in need of other facilities such as a police station, market and a community centre, the chief of the town feels that the ICT centre/library is critically needed to prepare the children to become useful adults in the future.

Side attraction

The side attraction of the introduction and a fundraising programme today is a quiz competition in the English language and Twi among the youth, especially school dropouts, and the use of the platform to drum home the importance of education to the youth.
