The Dean of Students of the Pentecost University College (PUC), Apostle Dr Daniel Okyere Walker, has been elevated and inducted into office to take over from Apostle Dr Peter Ohene Kyei as the rector of the school.
The outgoing rector’s tenure of office came to an end in July 2016 and he is set to head the Church of Pentecost in the Winneba area in the Central Region.
The Chancellor of the PUC, Apostle Dr Opoku Onyinah, assisted Apostle Dr Walker to put on his robe of office at a colourful investiture and induction ceremony in Accra last Sunday.
In an address, Apostle Dr Walker expressed appreciation for the honour done him and pledged that his administration would work tirelessly to ensure that the PUC gain its Presidential Charter soon.
While extolling the good works of his predecessor, he said he would build on his predecessor’s legacies and make the university more attractive to the public as a centre of academic excellence.
As part of his vision to develop the PUC, the new rector stated that plans had been put in place to make the school a research-based institution of choice in the country and the West African sub-region.
In addition, he said the university would focus more on science and technology, stressing, “As we seek to become a renowned university in science and technology, we will invest in the sector as a means to support teaching, learning, research and administration”.
Apostle Dr Walker said the university ought to look for new avenues of generating income and that he was hopeful his administration would resolve that challenge.
“We will develop new funding streams to maintain financial strength and stability and we will do this by embarking on result-oriented fund- raising programmes,” he promised.
Apostle Dr Walker added that the PUC would not lose focus of its core values and would ensure that the courses run by the university were geared towards equipping its graduates with skills and knowledge required for the job market.
He said there was the need to forge strong collaboration between the school and its stakeholders in order to build a much stronger brand name, and was also quick to add that the university would not rest on its oars and would continuously strive to achieve more.
Apostle Dr Ohene Kyei charged his successor to build on the foundations of his predecessors and make the university great.
He assured Apostle Dr Walker of his utmost support.
