NATIONAL SERVICE or NATIONAL SUFFERING?
After Tertiary education students from the Polytechnic s, Colleges and Universities etc. are to proceed and do their National Service which starts in September and ends on 31st August the following year.
The month August is a leave for all National Service Personnel’s but those who were posted to schools have to wait for the school to vacate before they can go on the leave.
Since Corruption and Fraud was detected at the Regional and District secretariats of NSS, there have been delays in paying the allowance which is nothing to write home about to Service Personnel’s.
The most annoying part is that on the service registration online form you are given the chance to choose 3 regions where u want to do your National Service, but at times they refuse giving you any of the 3 regions you chosed and post you to a different Region, most students looking at the financial constraints choose regions where they think it will favor them to get their daily bread from family friends, parents, etc., or choose places closer to their homes yet they are sent to regions very far from home, which make the service a suffering.
Imagine someone who stays in Koforidua and he or she chooses Eastern Region, Greater Accra and Ashanti Region and at the end of the day these students are posted to Kunbungu in the Northern Region, Pru in the Brong Ahafo Region or Sewhi Wiawso in the Western Region, living or cost of living becomes a challenge to these Personnel’s.
Service Personnel’s are expected to submit their monthly allowance form around 15th of every month so that allawa can be processed early and sent into their ezwich accounts by the end of the month.
Personnel’s can expect their first allawa at the end of September but only God know when they will pay us.
There have been circumstances where we went to one of the district secretariat to submit the October monthly form and realized that the September form we sent were still hipped there, it has not yet been submitted to the Regional Office to be processed to the Nation headquarters for auditing before finally submitted to CAGD to effect payment.
October is at the edge of ending and how are we going to survive in a region far away from home.
Who speaks for the voiceless?
We can’t leave like this anymore.
Kindly pay us our allawa.
