JUST IN:UG SRC President and Vice face Impeachment for willfully Violating their Oath of Office

A resident of the Mensah Sarbah Hall, Mr. Samuel Duku has notified the Judicial Board of the University of Ghana that impeachment proceedings have begun against the current SRC president, Mr. Daniel Otting Awuah and his vice, Mr. Moses Baafi Acheampong.

According to the petitioner, Mr. Duku, the impeachment process has become necessary as the “SRC President and Vice President have willfully acted in violation of the oath of office.”

Below are some excerpts from the petition;

“My Lord, on or about 27th October, 2017, the Judicial Board in their judgment written by Boadu JSC on the case DERRICK ABOTSI & DANIEL AMEWOR vs THE SRC PRESIDENT and THE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS, SRC unanimously held that the appointment of Mr. Jonathan Abotiwine as unconstitutional and ordered a new person to be appointed.

My Lord, the Board gave an order to the effect that the SRC President & other SRC Executive officers should consult the Executive Committee and appoint a legal advisor within the short vacation. This appointee would be presented to the General Assembly at their first sitting, which would approve the appointee before the Chief Justice swears him or her into office.

My Lord, the issue of the appointment of the SRC legal Advisor have popped up in three subsequent sittings of the SRC General Assembly and the SRC President and The Vice President have failed to give any reasonable explanation as to why they have failed to appoint the legal advisor as ordered by the Appeals Board”

Mr. Duku concluded his petition with a plea to judicial board to “endorse the validity of this ground and further communicate to the General Assembly to commence the impeachment proceedings.”
