JUST IN:Awutu Senya West District Inaugurates Model School for Girls

The Awutu Senya West Education Directorate in the Central Region has Launched a Model School for Girls in the Region and beyond.

The Model School , St Mark Model Girls’ School was launched on Wednesday, April 11,2018 at the St. Kilian Catholic Church Auditorium at Awutu Beraku .

Some dignitaries at the launch include; Hon. DCE of Awutu Senya West,Hon.Samuel Mensah, Tufohene of Awutu Traditional Area~Nai Nkyarkey, the District Director of Education,Mrs Anna Belinda Baidoo, Awutu Assembly Man, chairman for committee of heads of basic schools in the directorate, School Management Committee Members, Officers from the Education office, teachers from St. Kilian,and parents of selected pupils.

The Launch was chaired by Mrs Winifred Boateng, the gender Coordinator of the Awutu Senya District .

Speaking to , the Public Relations Officer of the Awutu Senya West District Education Directorate, Miss Eunice Amponsah indicated, that the main purpose of establishing a model School for Girls was to empower girls in the district to be assertive and help prevent Teenage Pregnancy in the district.

According to her, girl child education is one of the very best ways of bringing young girls together to educate them on the possible impacts girls can contribute to national development.

Enrolment of Pupils

The Public Relations Officer indicated that the School was basically for only Junior High School Pupils, which means that admission into the School is only at JHS 1 .

She further indicated that girls between the ages of 12-14 were eligible to get admitted, better still girls who are getting into JHS 1 are eligible for admission.

She further stated that their targeted groups has been the adolescents.

The girls shall also be allowed to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination when they get to their final year.

The School is located at Awutu Beraku and interested parents can contact the District directorate for assistance.

Retirement of District Education Director

Meanwhile, the District Director of Education at the Awutu Senya West Directorate, who also heads the Awutu Senya East directorate shall retire from active service in May this year and Her send off ceremony  shall  be held on May 2,2018 at Awutu Beraku. shall give updates live from the Event.
