Gov’t Provides over Sixteen Thousand School Uniforms to Upper West region

Government has provided sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty-three new school uniforms for distribution to school children particularly new entrants at the lower primary for 2016 2017 academic year in the Upper West Region.

Children who reported for school on My First Day at School were therefore given pair of uniform each at the schools visited in the Jirapa District as part of My First Day at School.

They also received drinks and biscuits from government officials to make the day a memorable one.

Radio Ghana’s Correspondent Sualah Abdul-wahab who reports from Jirapa that Deputy Regional Minister Dr. Musheibu Mohammed-Alfa who led the team described the turn out as encouraging.

My First Day at School is a special day for children who go to school for the first time in their lives.

In view of this efforts are made to make the day a memorable one for the new entrants.

Schools visited included Jirapa Town Kindegarten, Saint Anthony Model, Bazuu, Diree and Duori Primary.

The Deputy Regional Minster was accompanied by the Regional Director of Education Madam Patricia Ayiko, DCE for Jirapa Cletus Seidu Daplah and the Jirapa District Director of Education Madam Rachael Dery.

The officials spoke to the new entrants and the old students about the importance of education and the need to be regular in school.

Dr Mohammed-Alfa told the children that if they want to be successful in future they should take education seriously.

He cautioned female students not to do anything that will jeopardize their education.

He said teenage pregnancy is one of the practices that impede the education of girls and advised students at the upper primary to stay away from the practice.

The Regional Director of Education Madam Patricia Ayiko said government has provided sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty-three uniforms for distribution to school children in the region.

She indicated that Jirapa alone has received one thousand six hundred uniforms while the rest are distributed to other districts.

She commended the Jirapa District Assembly for providing biscuits and drinks for the children while encouraging the children to be regular at school.

Saint Anthony Model Primary recorded thirty-one new entrants while Jirapa Town KG had five.
