Finance Ministry gives Clearance for Recruitment of over 22,000 GES Staff

The Finance Ministry has issued Financial Clearance to the Education Ministry to employ about 22,802 staff of the Ghana Education Service.

The categories of employment include replacement, recruitment, and re-appointment of both teaching and non-teaching staff .

This information was contained in a statement made by the Education Minister, Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh at the floor of Ghana’s Parliament on Tuesday, November 7,2017.

He indicated, that a directive had been issued by his Ministry to the director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to go through the process of employing the staff in the first and second cycle institutions.

His statement was in response to a question posed by the member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North, Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, on when the Ministry would employ the 22,802 teaching and non-teaching staff approved by the Ministry of Finance in 2016 to fill the numerous vacancies in the first and second cycle institutions in Parliament.

The Minister was hopeful the processes involved in the employment will be completed by the end of 2017.

The Education Minister said the engagement of the 22,802 teaching and non-teaching staff had been catered for in the 2017 budget.
