Entry into Free SHS will be Merit-based and not Wholesale – Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has stated emphatically that not all graduates from the Junior High Schools will enjoy the free Senior High School Policy when implemented in September this year.

Speaking on Starr FM ,an Accra based radio station’s morning show known as Morning Starr on Tuesday morning, the minister stated categorically, that the qualification to enter into the Senior High School henceforth will be by merit,meaning that candidates are expected to pass with distinction, their Basic Education Certificate Examination before they can be allowed to enter into the Senior high school.

The Minister was not able to give out details as to the modalities to be considered in determining who deserves what with regards to the range of pass mark to be accepted.

The Minister also made reference to the normal admission that was in existence before the introduction of the free SHS policy,that students were being admitted based on merit and expected same from the new year under review.
