Public Colleges of Education in the Country shall soon begin awarding degrees to their students and shall become Satellite Campuses for some selected Public Universities offering Education Programmes.
The selected Universities include; the University of Cape Coast, the University of Education, Winneba, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, and the University for Development Studies, Tamale.
This information was contained in a publication by the Daily Graphic of a supposed interview with Prof. Yankah, the Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education.
According to the Minister,the idea was to ensure that all teachers in Ghana are trained as graduates.
He further indicated that decision to turn all colleges of education into satellite campuses of universities was part of the recommendations of the Prof. Jerome Djangmah Committee set up to look at various areas in the tertiary education sector.
The Minister also said that teachers who are already in the teaching field,an interim arrangement would be put in place for them to upgrade themselves through top-up programmes.
He said the ministry had adopted the report and had already forwarded it to the Cabinet for consideration before it would be sent to Parliament for endorsement.
