Collapsing School Block Causes Panic among parents

pandemonium on Monday morning at Zogbeli Primary School in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern region when some parents stormed the school to withdraw their children following a near collapse of an abandoned classroom block

The incident caused a stir as the  pupils hurriedly run out of the trembling structure to escape from harm

Ultimate News upon a visit to the school reliably gathered that the old fragile block is a part of six classroom structure for the primary pupils.

There was a heavy storm which ripped off  the entire building and left deep cracks on the structure.

City authorities and aid organizations replaced the battered roofs but failed to renovate the structure.

Authorities have barricaded the structure and declared it a “danger zone”

A teacher, Madam Christiana Yamson said the incident came late than they had expected. She said authorities were aware of the looming disaster but had turned blind eye and feared that they might not be so lucky next time

An angry parent quizzed “look at the building yourself, would you allow your child to be here”? While whisking his female child away.

Headmaster of the school Madam Agnes Ngmaadaa expressed worry and blamed the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly for being indifferent to the plight of the pupils.

She told Ultimate News parents were withdrawing their wards for the fear that the structure would collapse and cause havoc to lives

“Because of that most parent have taken their wards away; the number used to be great but now it is decreasing”, Madam Agnes said

Madam Agnes said litany of petitions  addressed to both the Member of Parliament for the area, Inusah Fuseini and the Metropolitan Assembly have been ignored and not responded to.

According to her the school Parent and Teacher Association(PTA) which took up the matter after several oversights from city authorities has become cash- strapped

“When it happened like that I was much disturbed so we quickly organized a PTA meeting and they promised to do something but you know they are dull; money is not forthcoming.

“We wrote several letters plus pictures and added to the metropolitan assembly. They came and have a look and promised us, but up to date”
