Central Region is making progress in promoting reading awareness among its pupils, after it has been realized that most Ghanaian school children can not read simple English Sentences, thereby using their local dialects as a replacement for the English language.
This mostly affects their ability to read and write during the Basic Education Certificate Examinations organized by the West African Examinations Council.
In view of this, the Bewuanum Anglican Basic School in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region engaged in a three -day reading festival organized by the district to be observed by all schools in the district.
The festival was meant for pupils from Kindergarten to Basic Three. The activities include Word games,Mother and Child,Pick and Act among others.
Speaking with the Headmaster of the School,Mr Prosper Dorkenoo,he emphasized that the reading festival did not only met its expected target but has also brought the Children closer to the teachers and parents, and also exposed the essence of Education to the parents and community at large.
