Information gathered by ROYALS News Nana Anfreh Damanta has reveals that the directorate of the Ghana Ghana Education Service in the Wenchi Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region have recorded 42% girls school dropped out.
The revelations came to alight as Ghana joined the International community to celebrates this year’s International Day of the Girl Child .
An interview with the Wenchi Municipal Girl Child officer at the directorate directorate of the Ghana Education Service Scholastica Dakurah said out of the 1,137 girls who entered the Junior High School in 2015, only 663 managed to the final year this year.
This means that 474 girls who entered JHS 1 in 2015 within the Municipality have dropped out of school represents 42% she said.
According to her those in JHS 2 the municipality have already lost 369 girls and in JHS 1,339 girls out of the 1,356 who graduated from primary 6 in 2016.
Now the question is where is these girls go she queries they did not go anywhere they are still here in the municipality Scholastica noted. She further noted that some of the girls were made pregnant by “irresponsible men” in the communities they reside reside,others died through unsafe abortions,some were given out into early marriage and had to abandon promising futures as educated citizens of the country. On her part the public health nurse at the directorate of the Ghana Health Service in Wenchi municipality Mrs. Doris Mensah Sarfo said her outfit has recorded 300 teenage pregnancies and 15 unsafe abortions with zero death.Source:EducationGhana.net
